Learning How to Comfort Others
Judy's eyes looked red. I believe she had been crying. I thought to myself that she could just be having a bad day or that there was a misunderstanding from her husband or a co-worker. I wanted to just leave it like that, but I had a prompting sensation within to follow her to the bathroom and plan to politely ask her how her day was going and if everything was okay.
I did this and found out that she was worried about the medical findings of her doctors. They talked about cancer or leukemia for a pain that was not going away. Tests were being run and not knowing the results had put this nagging burden on her.
It became an easy task that moment to talk about the LORD and His sufferings in life. Our conversation centered on His promise that if we call on Him that He is always there.
I reminded Judy to focus her eyes on the LORD as He will see her through all these. She smiled and said, "I know and I am praying. I have a small boy to take care of."
My comforting Judy did not stop there. I made follow-ups on her with simple hellos and short questions here and there. Also I sent her some attachments or e-mail encouragements which talk about GOD's work and His loving touch. "Offer it to Him!", I said and she would always respond back, "Oh, I do!" It feels good that everytime she passes my way that she would smile or give a simple nod acknowledging that she knows I care for her. That language of GOD's love works between us. It is tangible among believers.
